AUTUMN LAWN
RENOVATION
A
healthy good-looking lawn is a fabulous recreational
space for children and adults and really sets
off the rest of your garden.
This Easter weekend is the ideal time to
take a look at your lawn and most will need
a repair job before winter.
This is easy to achieve with all the specialised
products now available.

EASTER CHOCOLATES!
Here are some special plants - chocolate
scented and chocolate coloured - most appropriate
for Easter time!
Chocolate Scented Geranium Chocolate
Mint
Although some claim this plant has a chocolate
scent, the name is a reference to the brown
splotch found in the center of its large,
three lobed leaves. The rough textured leaves
have a scent that is minty with a hint of
pungency. It is a large, vigorous grower with
lavender flowers and loses its variegation
when grown in low light.
Heuchera ‘Chocolate Ruffles’
A lovely foliage plant for part shade but
keep out out of the afternoon sun. It makes
a mound of chocolate-bronze leaves with burgundy
undersides.
Chocolate
Cosmos
A perennial plant from Mexico related to dahlias.
The dark maroon flowers though inedible smell
stronly of chocolate. Grow in a sunny position
and good drainage is essential or the tubers
will rot over winter.
They grow well in containers.
Ajuga ‘Chocolate Chip’
This low growing, narrow leaved ajuga is a
great groundcover plant for part shade. The
dense dark green foliage is compact and overlaid
with chocolate. Grow it between large pavers
as it will stand up to some foot traffic.

PESTS OF THE
MONTH
Grass Grub Beetle eggs are laid in the soil
over the summer and hatch into larvae in about
2 weeks. The larvae are creamy-white and 10-20mm
long and feed on the roots of turf and other
plants. Infested lawn will turn yellow and
die off.
Porina is a native moth in flight from spring
through summer, damaging turf in autumn to
spring. The larvae that cause the damage are
greyish yellow with a dark brown head and
can be up to 75mm long.
